We understand space as coordinates, rooms, buildings, and architecture.

AI reads it differently. It does not see a bedroom, an office, or a gym. It sees ceiling height, geometry, light, temperature, humidity, CO2 levels, noise levels—and human dwell time, heart rate, respiratory rate, movement patterns.

If work is no longer confined to the office, and sleep does not necessarily belong to the bedroom, then where does the definition of space truly lie?

Is it defined by physical en

closure, or by the extension of human behavior?

When AI perceives space as a continuous exchange of information between humans and their built environment, we, too, need to relearn how to inhabit space.

Perhaps the spaces of the future will no longer be machines for living, nor containers for machines, but ever-changing relationships between humans, objects, and space itself.

Jiahao Ge, AKA Fred, is a neuroarchitect, digital artist, and co-founder of Co-Existential Architecture Lab (Co-Al). He graduated from the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc), where he received continuous scholarships throughout his studies.

His work and research move across architecture, artificial intelligence, psychology, cognitive science, and neuroscience, exploring how space shapes human perception, physiology, and emotion while seeking to redefine the relationships between humans, objects, and space.

His work has been exhibited at the LA Design Festival, Tanween Grad Expo, and galleries across North America. He has also received awards and recognition for UI/UX and web design from Awwwards and CSS Design Awards, as well as a Merit Award for his undergraduate thesis,4/4.
